Hanji literally means “the paper of Korea”. The main material is the fibrous skin from mulberry trees so it is a strong and long lasting material unlike the regular industrial paper. It is used in a variety of ways; it is used to make furniture such as a side night stand, a lamp or even a big chestbox.
Join us every Thursday morning to discover this Korean traditional medium. You may choose from a variety of objects realizable with Hanji by consulting a catalog on display at the center.
Once you choose your item, we would need at least one week to prepare the starting kit.
Material cost is paid in advance prior to the first class. |

Korean Minhwa (beginner's class) 🌺
The Minhwa class brings together a group of amateur artists who are inspired about one of the most popular Korean traditional painting methods. You have probably seen them in Korean museums or souvenir shops in Seoul. The strong and acute black lines, the vivid eye-catching colors, Bold and unconventional layouts. You have probably felt the wit, humor, and optimistic spirit, tales of love and scholarship and seen the delicately colored flowers, insects and animals all combined to create the philosophy of art, and the life force itself, of Koreans. Come and try the art of Minhwa at Seorae Global.

Korea, Off the Beaten Path 💎
Talk Series No. 8 Taebaek
Taebaek. We are now taking you to another hidden jewel in the heart of Gangwon-do (East of Korea). Very well known and loved by nature lovers and hikers, Taebaek is one of the cleanest natural treasures of Korea. This is where one of the major Nakdong and Hangang rivers originate from feeding the rest of the mountaineous area in the southern part of Korea. This is where you will be able to visit a historic train station that sits at a very high altitude of 855m above sea level giving a stunning view of the mountain(Chujeon Station). Considered as a gift from nature, Taebaek is now a resort destination for healing and leisure. You can also stroll by a photogenic wind power generating hill that spans on a 3,000 acres of land. Whether you travel in the winter or in the summer, Taebaek awaits for you with its thousand splendid features.
On March 24th, Ms. Cho of MOVE travel magazine will reveal all the hidden gems of Taebaek that will make your upcoming trip more interesting.
Come and Join us on ZOOM armed with a pen to jot down all the local travel tips by a travel expert.

The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue. You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture. We hope that this will help you create new encounters and discoveries. Please visit our website for more information about what's happening this month. |
