Hanji literally means “the paper of Korea”.
The main material is the fibrous skin from
mulberry trees so it is a strong and long
lasting material unlike the regular industrial
paper. It is used in a variety of ways;
it is used to make furniture such as a
side night stand, a lamp or even a big
chestbox.

Join us every Thursday morning to discover this Korean traditional medium. You may choose from a variety of objects realizable with Hanji by consulting a catalog on display at the center.
Once you choose your item, we would need at least one week to prepare the starting kit.
Material cost is paid in advance prior to the first class.

Korean Minhwa (beginner's class)
The Minhwa class brings together a group of amateur artists who are inspired about one of the most popular Korean traditional painting methods. You have probably seen them in Korean museums or souvenir shops in Seoul. The strong and acute black lines, the vivid eye-catching colors, Bold and unconventional layouts. You have probably felt the wit, humor, and optimistic spirit, tales of love and scholarship and seen the delicately colored flowers, insects and animals all combined to create the philosophy of art, and the life force itself, of Koreans. Come and try the art of Minhwa at Seorae Global.

In response to the numerous requests for a first aid training targeted to families that have infants or new born child, the Seorae Global Village Center will host a training session on May 24th. Come and join the first aid training animated by a trained professional. Participants will receive a certificate once properly trained.

Korean Literature Book Club 📚
We are looking for additional members who are willing to join an English speaking in-person book club covering segments of contemporary Korean literature. Join this club, read at your leisure a book selected for the month to be discussed LIVE and learn about Korean society, its culture, its people and its history.
Our next book will be “Lemon” by Kwon Yeo-Sun. The story revolves around a murder case of a eighteen-year-onld girl in what becomes known as the High School Beauty Murder. In the process of revealing the truth, the author shines light on problems related to class, gender, and privilege in contemporary Korea. This meeting will be held on Thursday evening May 26th at 19:00pm.

Barry Welsh
Barry Welsh is an Assistant Professor at Dongguk University. He is also a freelance English Editor at K-Book Trends(a web magazine published by the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea) as well as a weekly book reviewer for KBS World Redio.
He was also a former book reviewer at EBS (Korean Educational Broadcast System).
He also runs a YouTube channel called Seoul Book Club hosted by Barry Welsh that he updates regularly with original reviews of Korean books translated into English. |

| The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue. You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture.
