Welcome to the Seorae Global Village Center
Greetings. Thank you for your interest in our activities and programs. As we are entering a new year, we would like to re-instate some of our rules and regulations related to the programs offered at our center:
- Personal information that is collected to participate in the monthly programs (name, phone number, emails, nationality, visa type, address (-gu)) will only be used for the purpose of running our programs and will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent.
- Group activities are recorded either as still images or videos for the purpose of internal record keeping and to use as our promotional material. The center reserves the right to these images. If you do not wish to appear in photos nor in videos, kindly inform the staff before joining an activity so that we may edit the images accordingly.
- If you register for an activity, kindly confirm your attendance and if any payment is required to participate, arrange to make the payment for any reservation / material fee by the deadline mentioned in the confirmation email (typically one week in advance).
- If you have registered for a class and paid but can no longer attend, kindly arrange for someone to take your place if the class involves food ingredients or craft supplies. Alternatively, you can arrange for your ‘kit’ to be collected within 24 hours of the class.
- Payment or reimbursement request on the day of the class will no longer be accepted. This is to prevent no-shows occurring.
- Classes that are running longer than one session per month such as the Minhwa and the Hanji classes, the class fee is for the total number of sessions offered and published in the newsletter. Request for partial payment or discounts for missed sessions will no longer be accepted.
- Participants that sign up with no follow-on action for multiple occasions will be restricted from joining our classes in the future.
- Should you wish to stop receiving these monthly newsletters, please write us an email to seorae@seoul.go.kr.
Rules pertaining to Korean classes are stated separately in the class participation rules and in your confirmation emails. Please ask a staff for a hard copy of it if needed. We hope to have your support in our operational efforts and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hanji literally means "the paper of Korea".
The main material is the fibrous skin from mulberry trees so it is a strong and long lasting material unlike the regular industrial paper. It is used in a variety of ways; it is used to make furniture such as a side night stand, a lamp or even a big chest.
Join us on Friday morning to discover this Korean traditional medium. |

Korean Cooking Class
Menu of This Month: A Korean-styple Picnic Menu!
Join us this month as we prepare a picnic menu beloved by many Koreans, featuring two types of kimbap―tuna and fish cake, and two types of inari sushi with a twist—imitation crab mayo and beef.
Kimbap is a classic Korean dish made with rice and various fillings rolled in seaweed and sliced into bite-sized pieces. Though often compared to sushi, it has its own unique flavors and ingredients that reflect Korean culinary traditions.
While Inari sushi originates from Japan, it has become a popular picnic choice in Korea. For this class, we have added our own creative variations to give it a fresh and fun twist.
Come enjoy hands-on cooking, flavorful recipes, and a taste of Korean-style picnic favorites!

Greek Lessons by Han Kang
Greek Lessons by Han Kang is a quiet, lyrical novel about two people drawn together by loss and the search for meaning. In Seoul, a woman who has lost her voice begins studying Greek with a teacher who is gradually losing her sight. As their lives intersect, they form a delicate bond rooted in silence, memory, and the transforma-tive power of language. Through the study of an ancient tongue, the novel explores how comm-unication and connection can transcend words, offering healing in the face of isolation and grief.

Walking Guided Tour through the Streets of Northern Seoul
Remembering the Times of the Post Korean War
On June 4th 2025, we will be exploring the Dobongsan to witness some remaining traces of the Korean War. When the war broke out, Cheorwon was one strategic entry point for North Korea. We will be seeing what remains of the trenches and tank bases built to defend Seoul after the war and how they have remained part of the landscape in the area. We will start off by walking through one of the oldest traditional market called Dokkaebi Market in Banghak-dong which started as street stalls in the 80s, opened guerilla style and disappearing during police raids. We will then be strolling to a park that used to be a military facility (underground tank facility) for a short break and quick bite. The Changpo flowers should still be in full bloom. Please wear comfortable hiking shoes. We worked hard to retain our experienced English speaking guide during this busy touristy season. We would hence appreciate your commitment to the tour if you plan on joining by registering for a spot.
Date and Time : Wednesday, June 4th 2025 | tour starts at 10AM
Meeting Point : 방학동도깨비시장 버스정류장 10310 (Dokkebi market bus stop)
*location details will be sent by email
Target Audience : Foreign residents(adult) living in Seoul
📌 Space limited to 15 people

The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue. You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture. We hope that this will help you create new encounters and discoveries. Please visit our website for more information about what's happening this month. |
