Hanji literally means “the paper of Korea”.
The main material is the fibrous skin from mulberry trees so it is a strong and long lasting material unlike the regular industrial paper. It is used in a variety of ways; it is used to make furniture such as a side night stand, a lamp or even a big chestbox.
Join us every Thursday morning to discover this Korean traditional medium. |

Next book : Vegetarian by Han Kang
Yeong-hye lived an ordinary life with her husband. Until things start to fall apart. She is haunted by blood soaked images and decides to purge her mind and stops eating meat. In a country where societal norms are strictily obeyed, Yeong-hye's decision to exist 'plant-like' is an act of subversion. As her passive rebellion manifests in ever more extreme and frightening forms, Yeong-hye spirals deep into the spaces of her own fantasy. The author Han Kang recently won the Prix Medicis for Impossible Goodbyes. |

The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue.
You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture. We hope that this will help you create new encounters and discoveries.
Please visit our website for more information about what's happening this month. |
