Korean Cooking Class
Menu of this month:
Japchae(stir-fried glass noodles and vegetable) & Five colored skewer pancake |
|
|
On February 22nd (Thu) at 1:30 pm, we will be making two Korean 'Jesa' dishes that are used for ancestral rites during our main National Holidays. On Lunar New Year's day as well as on Chuseok day, many Korean families gather to pay hommage to the ancestors by carefully preparing traditional Korean dishes as offerings. We selected two of our favorites to share with our Center's audience for their aroma and visuals: Japchae and 5-colored skewer pancake (O saek Kkochi jeon). These represent of course only a sampling of the more elaborate side dishes and culinary realisations. |

1904. We are in the deepening episode of the Russo-Japanese War. Asia was parceled out to rising powers and the Korean empire was annexed by Japan. Facing war and the loss of their nation, more than a thousand Koreans leave their homes to seek possibility elsewhere- in unknown Mexico.
Black Flower is an epic story based on a little-known moment in history. Kim Young-Ha is a Men Asian Literary Prize Nominee of 2012. |

The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue.
You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture. We hope that this will help you create new encounters and discoveries.
Please visit our website for more information about what's happening this month. |
