Indian Cooking Class🍴
Menu of this month : Aloo Tikki(Indian snack) & Shahi Tukda (Indian dessert)
India is a vast country with a rich cultural heritage. Flavours and spices change as per geography resulting in a delectable smorgasbord of recipes.
Chaat or Indian Street Food can simply be described as a fun combination of mouthwatering textures and flavors - savory, spicy, sour and sweet, which can be eaten any time of the day but are especially enjoyed during the monsoons. In this session, we will teach you to cook one of the favourites - The Aloo Tikki Chaat (you will find many versions of this as you travel the length and breadth of the country) but this is the most popular one. This street style aloo tikki chaat can be found all over India even in small eateries and roadside stalls. The aloo tikkis are deep fried and sometimes shallow fried. In this version, crunchy and succulent tikkis made of potatoes and bathed in curds and spruced up with sweet and green chutneys and sprinkled with an exciting mix of spice powders. You might also go home with some tips on chutneys too! These crispy potato cutlets are served with a blend of yogurt, sweet, sour and spicy chutneys (sauces) and garnished with sev(crispy fried chick pea flour straws)
To balance the exciting flavors of this savory dish, we will also teach you how to make Shahi Tukda (roughly translating to Royal Slice). This is a Mughal delicacy brought to India by the Mughal Rulers and has since evolved into many local versions.
This dessert is made with crispy fried bread, soaked in a light sugar syrup and served with a flavorful custard and garnished with dried fruits and nuts.

The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue. You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture. We hope that this will help you create new encounters and discoveries. Please visit our website for more information about what's happening this month. |
