|
|
The Minhwa class brings together a group of amateur artists who are inspired about one of the most popular Korean traditional painting methods. You have probably seen them in Korean museums or souvenir shops in Seoul.
The strong and acute black lines, the vivid eye-catching colors, Bold and unconventional layouts. You have probably felt the wit, humor, and optimistic spirit, tales of love and scholarship and seen the delicately colored flowers, insects and animals all combined to create the philosophy of art, and the life force itself, of Koreans.

Seoye(Korean Calligraphy) Class
Seoye is the Korean tradition of artistic writing. Calligraphy in Korean culture involves both Hanja(Chinese logograph) and Hangul(Korean native alphabet). After the birth of Hangul(Korean alphabet) in 1443, Korean calligraphy finally bloomed in the 16th to 17th Century during the Joseon Dynasty, used whithin the palace by the secretary officer of the royal court. The fonts are still evolving, but we are going to learn the two major types of writing, which is Panbonche(판본체; block letter, standard style) and Gungchae(궁체; court style, cursive). Seoye is extremely calming and mindful while in practice. It will also be a great opportunity to pratice and/or correct your Korean handwriting.
Please be reminded that by joining this class, you will be taking part in the fall exhibition.

Simply read the book of the month, and come to share and discuss about Korean society, its culture, its people and its history. Everyone is invited to be the moderator for one evening.

The unexpected loss of an under-appreciated father and a misunderstood half-sister, their deaths wrapped in suspicion, brings the two protagonists into each other's paths. The Seorae Global Village Center is part of a network of information and welcome centers for foreigners located in neighborhoods across Seoul where many foreign residents tend to reside. The opening of these centers was an initiative of the city of Seoul in 2008 with the mission to provide practical information about living in Korea so that foreign residents find the day-to-day management easy. Our primary role is to answer questions that pertain to daily life and to help manage situations where the language barrier becomes an issue. You will find at the center Korean language programs as well as other cultural and artistic lessons to learn and appreciate the multiple facts of the Korean culture. We hope that this will help you create new encounters and discoveries. Please visit our website for more information about what's happening this month. |
